Many of the topics, such as Samba and networking, focus on making your GNU/Linux installation part of a wider network with a variety of operating systems.

Product: RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux Certification Study Guide This is the sixth edition of Jang’s Red Hat Linux Certification Study Guide, though it has in previous editions been known under slightly different titles due to the change in Red Hat’s test titles. With the transition to Red Hat Enterprise 6 and the introduction of Red Hat’s RHCSA (Certified System Administrator) test, this book has undergone a significant revision cycle. First things first - the book comes with a CD that contains a total of four practice exams, two for the RHCSA exam and two for the RHCE exam.

It answers the questions, why choose CentOS, installation and where to download the files from, a few basic commands and how to patch your fresh install with the latest updates using the YUM tool.

Product: 0596007582 This book says it’s a system administrator’s guide. Since I’m not a sysadmin but more of a hacker with Linux, I found lots of details seemed to be glossed over. If you are looking for a high level explanation of making Linux work with a Windows network, this book is for you. Most Linux books seem to assume you know more than you (I) do. I haven’t found any one Linux book that tells me everything I need to know to get some server running, such as Samba.

Product: 1118531744 The thing to do today with Linux+ books apparently is to develop ones that aren’t complete. Robb Tracy’s book and this book are both missing a good deal of information for the cert. Robb Tracy’s book however is missing a LOT MORE; also a good amount of information in Tracy’s book is just plain wrong (capabilities of a command, options, etc..). Since I read both of the popular cert guides, I’ll give my opinion on them both.
