Product: 0132354136 I’ve been a Ubuntu user for a few months now and decided to write a review to help others. This book is a must-have for Ubuntu Users (existing / new) and anyone who want to have a better Operating System (I think not only better, but also best). This book covers all the essentials topics that any Ubuntu User would like to cover. I really got inspired by the Ubuntu Promise (No commercial intention), Ubuntu Philosophy of Software Freedom and community support.

Product: 159327257X This book is simplistic and goes step by step. Please understand, it will try to give you a basic/intermediate understanding of Ubuntu and try to teach some things about Linux. It is not trying to teach you Linux itself. Just Ubuntu…a particular ‘flavor’ of Linux. I agree with a previous review that this book could have used more pictures, diagrams, visuals. Technical direction without pictures is cruel to the geekiest of people.

Product: 0672336243 Simply put, this is a solid primer for someone who is unfamiliar with Ubuntu or other Debian based distros, and perhaps for someone who has never used Linux. It is well written, comfortably sized in terms of content, and is fairly well organized. Probably not a book for the Linux expert, but for the rest of us, it is a nice addition to the technical library. Rating: 5 0672336243 Count: 8

Product: Ubuntu Made Easy Despite its usability, it can be a bit tricky to come to grips with Ubuntu (or any Linux distribution) if you don’t have the lay of the land. Regardless of the features added to the distribution for ease of use. So how can you get that lay of the land without a lot of time-consuming experimentation? That’s where Ubuntu Made Easy comes in. The book is easy-to-follow and the format actually teaches you something.

Product: 0672336936 I purchased the 2013 edition but a new one comes out each year which is nearly identical, and I figure no one is looking at the 2013 edition reviews anymore so I’ll copy/paste here what I wrote for that one: I am often disappointed with technical books but this one is very nice. Very clearly and nicely written, and thorough. Even when some details on a topic are missing, this is indicated, so you can know what to search for elsewhere in case you need to.

Product: 0672336243 I am often disappointed with technical books but this one is very nice. Very clear and nicely written, and thorough. Even when some details on a topic are missing, this is indicated, so you can know what to search for elsewhere in case you need to. I installed Ubuntu on a Mac partition so I have it along with OSX on the same computer, and obviously the book does not cover something unusual like that, but this book was still very helpful for my install, along with the Mac-specific stuff I found on the web.

Product: 0470497025 The author is a very experienced assembly language programmer, and he covers topics in a very organized way so that the reader can fully understand at each step of the way. This is a bit boring for programmers who are familiar with assembly language, even those vastly different from Intel’s, but those readers can skip the first three chapters and skim parts of the others. The author does a fantastic job of focusing on the most important information needed for assembly language programming.

Product: Ubuntu Made Easy This Ubuntu book is very easy to read and does clearly explain how the system works. Ubuntu 12.4, which is on the CD that comes with the book is their best long term supported release yet. Where the book does come up short is in the way it presents some things. It would be much better if it described a problem or process in the language

Product: Ubuntu Made Easy Being a long-time Linux user without only a minimum of technical knowledge of Unix operating systems in general, I find myself an evangelist without the answers of tough questions I often get from converts. I worked for years using Unix computers but never had the time or inclination to tweak and dig for details that many others do when they are bitten by the Linux/Unix bug. So being comfortable with a working Linux system is much different than knowing what to do when something is not working.

Product: 0672336936 This book will introduce you to Linux Ubuntu and walk you through a progressively deeper understanding of this excellent operating system. Includes a DVD to install Ubuntu 13.10 and an offer to receive Ubuntu 14.04 (currently released as of April 18, 2014). After using MS Windows for 20 years I am very happy to switch completely to Ubuntu and the open source system. This book makes all that possible.
