Product: 0596009305 This book covers the administration of, usage of, and shell programming on Linux systems. The book is an overview of Linux and serves as an excellent reference, but doesn’t come close to a tutorial. This 6th edition continues to be a good extended man page for the operating system’s many commands, features, and utilities. Linux has recently been extended, and most of those extensions appear to be covered in this book.

Product: 1597495867 First let me start off by saying that the Amazon packaging was terrible and likely the reason the book looked ‘used’ instead of new when I received it. In order to get better packaging you might want to order this book with other books. —– The author does not make the assumption that everyone reading the book will be familiar with what Open Source Software is and goes in to a little bit of detail on the subject.

Product: Linux Bible This is a good book for beginners. Downside: It focuses on commands used for Fedora and RedHat Linux. This is disappointing because Ubuntu is the most popular flavor of Linux now. The authors should address this gap, but they don’t. Upside, the language is clear and they remind you how to continue to configure the system from earlier chapters if you’ve followed previous examples. Rating: 4 0470230193 Count: 52

Product: 013254248X After buying four 800 page Ubuntu books, I finally found Mark Sobell’s ‘A Practical Guide to Ubuntu Linux’. It is the best book on the market to learn Ubuntu with. The author helps you to understand how the processes work while giving you clear commands to control them. This is a great combination to learn and practice with. The other books I purchased before this one were complex (sometimes wrong) and read like dictionaries that didn’t offer insight or flow.

Product: 1517392772 I have heard about Linux 20 years ago and I always thought, that Linux is only a system for expert computer users and not for simple users like me, because everything was much more complicated in the beginning of Linux, so I threw it away. This book is perfect for beginners. Everything is explained in detail, so that it is easy to understand. You learn how to install Ubuntu, it explains how to use the commands and so on.

Product: 0470082933 Ubuntu Linux Toolbox is not a book for beginners and is not a book you read from cover to cover for general knowledge and it is not a tome on Unix/Linux. Ubuntu Linux Toolbox is a type of reference book that is helpful when using the Linux command line that lies behind the colorful Ubuntu GUI. The book is intended for intermediate users learning their way around Linux or advanced users that might need an occasional reminder of some fact or command.

Product: 0672336243 This book kept me employed, I was asked to make and ftp on Ubuntu Linux with authorization policies. The reason was we did not want mainstream ftp servers is because hacking them was well known. We mixed layers of different software languages with encryption. This book was a great help to me. Product: 0130084662 You can’t go wrong having this book. It has already helped me solve a couple of problems I was having with Ubuntu Linux. I am not an administrator but a home user and this book has already come in handy. It’s not a bad addition to any Linux library. Rating: 5 0130084662 Count: 19

Product: LINUX: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide! I have a background in Windows with many years spent as a systems administrator for a large company. I am fully aware of the vulnerabilities that the Windows operating system can have and have been interested in the stable environment of the Linux operating system but have never had the time to learn and could never find a book that could convey the Linux principles in a way that is quick and easy to learn.

Product: 0321636783 My current PC is a great machine, built it myself four years ago and it is still going strong. However, it runs XP windows which is now beginning to create all kinds of problems. For example, can’t upgrade to the latest Explorer, and so I have been using Mozilla and Chrome more often, which is not a bad thing. Recently ordered Ubuntu 14 and have played with it a bit.
