Product: 1430219122 Turnbull, Lieverdink & Matotek should do a public service to PRO Linux Administrators and possibly drop the Pro from their Pro Linux System Administration book. For once I totally agree with all the other reviewers (never mind there are only two) of this book in the fact that this is NOT an advanced server title. That is about the only serious complaint I have since accidentally enough since I am not anywhere close to being a seasonal Linux user, much less a PRO.

Product: 0596006403 Not a bad book, but it’s not for beginners…. but it’s not for longtime users, either. This book is good for those who have a Linux distro up-and-running (‘Ubuntu’, or ‘Mint’ perhaps), are comfortable using it, and wish to experiment with setting up some additional services using the command line and working with configuration files. If you’ve got more experience, then this simply rehashes what you’ve already learned – even if you don’t consider yourself an ‘expert’.

Product: 0470082933 At some point, any Debian user will either give up Linux, getting back to the cave and Windows or end up googling to find a faster, better way to accomplish all those tedious, time consuming and error prone tasks that he manually does, over and over, through the graphical interface. This book, with its learn by doing approach, is a great companion to anyone wiling to get the most out of the penguin, unleashing the true power of Linux and taking control of his machine and its services through the command line.

Product: 159327257X Though I don’t think I qualify completely as a non-geek, I found this title both informative and enjoyable. Though pretty adept and comfortable in my Windows existence, I have long wanted to dabble around in Linux. I have heard of Ubuntu, but never had done anything with it until coming across Grant’s title. I was pleasantly surprised by both the book and the installation CD included. Grant writes with a friendly, conversational style; including periodic tongue-in-cheek comments which I like.

Product: 1590596277 This has to be one of the clearest books about Ubuntu and in Linux in general. It’s certainly not too geeky, just a bit. Rating: 5 1590596277 Count: 15

Product: 0470038993 This is the one indispensable guide to Ubuntu Linux. It continues a series by updating to the April, 2010, release of Ubuntu 10.04. There are techniques, tricks, hints, and advice here you can find nowhere else. And many are essential to getting the most from the Linux operating system. The book is huge. You will have bedtime reading for a month. If I have one complaint, and it is minor, the author wastes a little space by ungraciously insulting the two popular operating systems.

Product: 159327257X This is a great book for newbies to Unbuntu Linux. It could have a few more pictures and illustrations. The author knows his subject but he could go a little more in depth as there are thing he assumes you know and if I would have come straight from Windows to Ubuntu I would have had a hard time conprehending certain things. Overall it is one of the best books on Linux I found.

Product: 0596527209 I found this book extremely useful. It has been able to provide me with several fixes for common every day issues, enabled me to speed up my machines. (I have at least four machines running ubuntu linux/solaris) and unlike some other operating systems, I do not have to re-invent the wheel with each upgrade. if you use Linux, and Ubuntu is your favorite flavor then this book will serve you well.
