Product: 1517392772 I am very versed in using Windows OS, but over the past 10 years I have become somewhat of an advanced basic user of Linux. This book has shed further light on the Linux OS as it refers to various commands used and how to even set it up. The book talks about the different flavors/versions of Linux, like Ubuntu and Red Hat, that are super easy to install and use.

Product: 0596527209 This book has been invaluable to me. I have attempted to use Linux several times. I’ve tried Mandrake, RedHat, and some other smaller incarnations. I finally tried Ubuntu with much success. I like the whole Ubuntu/Debian philosophy. Since Ubuntu only includes open source software there are things you will be missing after you install it. This book helps you fill in the missing pieces. It also tells you how to customize the OS to your liking.

Product: 0975913506 I was very pleased with this book. It’s a quick intro to the Linux command line. It’s easy to follow and the examples are good. While this book won’t make you a Linux guru (as someone else already mentioned), it will help you develop the fundamentals of the command line and help make you more proficient. This is also a good reference for Linux certification exams, as many of them have several questions pertaining to the command line.

Product: Linux Bible I already know Linux, but I bought this book as a desk reference. It was well worth it and has saved me grief more than once. Excellent info on setting up web servers, etc. However, its got pretty much NOTHING on MySQL which is odd because what website in todays world doesn’t require a db? The info on SELinux, web servers, file servers (SAMBA) and email alone made it worth buying.

Product: 1590596277 I have been using Ubuntu for about a year now and it is the best. I bought this book to learn more about it and how to manage it better. I am also hoping to get certified in Linux after reading this book. It truly is the easiest Linux to use. Rating: 5 1590596277 Count: 15

Product: Ubuntu Made Easy I’ve been a DOS user since the first IBM PC came out, and a Windows user since version 3.1. I’ve used Linux on our business servers, but mainly through the cPanel admin interface, which hides most of the ugly details of the operating system. I’ve installed a couple of Linux distributions on Windows system under Virtual Box, but only enough to see what they look like. So I’m still pretty much a novice at navigating Linux.

Product: 1499222033 Having used Linux (Ubuntu, primarily) as my main OS for over a decade, I’m very familiar with the use of the command line. However, as the OS has matured there has been less need to keep command line skills sharp. That being said, this is a reasonably good reference for command line tricks. Not the best I’ve seen, but has been handy on occasion. Rating: 3 1499222033 Count: 7

Product: 0470082933 I’ve become a bigger and bigger fan of Ubuntu and Linux. This is a good resource for both but definitely not for the beginner. I found it helpful for administration and more so when I need help remembering how to use a command. Rating: 4 0470082933 Count: 18

Product: 0470497025 Good introductory book on IA-32 Assembly programming in Linux. You do need Ubuntu, unless you are very flexible. Discusses basic stuff, in a way useful for those starting out. Illustrations are good. It’s a bit wordy, and things may be explained after, not before. I can live with that. Good basic book. Rating: 4 0470497025 Count: 13

Product: 0470038993 This is a very comprehensive operating manual for the Ubuntu system. It covers every conceivable aspect of the Ubuntu-Linux OS. There is historical background in several places describing the evolution of the system. There are a large number of web sites listed for user’s groups, support and general interest in the OS system. The author is thoroughly aquainted with the system. He admits that this 904 page volume does not cover all of Ubuntu’s capabilities.
